Is FMM still required to enter Mexico? ›

Stays less than 72 hours within the border area, do not require an Official Entry Immigration Form (FMM). U.S. citizens who travel as tourists beyond the “border zone” or enter by air must fill out an Official Entry Immigration Form (FMM), which is provided by commercial airlines or at the Mexican airport of entry.

Foreign nationals who wish to enter Mexico by land must fill up a FMME form which can be obtained online: https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html Complete this form with your individual information.

Get a permit online, at the Mexican border, or at certain Mexican consulates in the United States. U.S. citizens must present a valid U.S. passport book or card, and an entry permit issued by Instituto Nacional de Migración.

Mexican nationals and naturalized foreigners

If you are in possession of Mexican passport, you will need to complete a form before you exit the country known as the Formato Estadístico para Mexicanos (FEM). The government uses this to record statistics of Mexican nationals traveling abroad.

If you are a foreigner entering Mexico you will need to present a completed FMM Form. Complete the form online, save time and expedite your crossing. You will be required to present a printed copy of the completed form on the day of your trip.

Requires a valid passport or passport card. The stamped FMM is valid for land travel throughout Mexico. Cost: $717.00 Pesos (appx U.S. $43) per person; FREE if the trip is 7 days or less and you cross by land. May be issued for up to 180 days.

People who come to Mexico for leisure or business visits lasting 180 days or less, and who are passport holders of one of the many countries which don't require a visa to enter Mexico can complete a visitors permit, known as Forma Migratoria Multiple or FMM, at the port of entry.

If you are not issued with a a paper FMM when you arrive in Mexico, or asked to complete a paper FMM form when you're resident in Mexico and leave the country, the immigration official will place a stamp in your passport, instead.

At this time, officials are not frequently checking for FMMs when driving across the border. However, it is important to note that there have been immigration checkpoints on the highways recently. The FMM is legally required in Mexico, so you may be turned around at checkpoint if you don't have a valid FMM on you.
